Some Layout Sneaks

Hello Nesters and Happy Friday to you!  I did something this week that I haven't done for a long time.  I created a 12" x 12" PAPER scrapbook page!  I've really been caught up in creating digital layouts for about a year and the rest of my scrappy time is taken up with cards and smaller things like tags, ATCs and Inchies.

We're having a December Sketch Challenge at one of the sites where I serve on the Design Team and I decided to make a paper layout for the reveal.  Of course, I can't show you the layout yet, because the sketch and the Design Team's projects won't be posted until December 10th.  I had so much fun creating this that I just had to show you some "sneaks" of my layout.

I love banners and I love Echo Park and there are almost always banners in Echo Park Collections.  These are two fairly small banners that I "swagged" up in one corner.

How adorable are all of these little owls?  That's one of the pieces of patterned paper ~ SO cute!!

Here's a tiny piece of a bigger banner that says "HOHOHO" and one of the cute little owl with the Santa hat embellishments.

How stinkin' cute is that little owl?

Don't you just love this big "Do Not Open" embellishment?  I just love this whole collection.  It's called Dear Santa and I love the turquoise colors mixed in with the reds and different shades of green.  There's even a lot of navy in there.

You'll have to come back on December 14th to see my entire layout.  Next week I'll be able to show you the Christmas card that I made for the same reveal.   Are you working on anything special right now or doing something that you haven't done for awhile (like I am with this paper layout?)  We'd love to see your latest creations or just hear your stories in our Facebook Group.  You can load your latest project in our FB Group for all of us to see.

Have you joined our Facebook Group yet?  If you haven't, we'd love to have you join.  There's always room at the Nest.

Mix it up Titles!

Today I want to share an older layout, but one of my all time favorites!
I made this a few years ago. Photos were from Evan's last day of preschool right before he started Kindergarten. He couldn't wait to show me how he could finally climb this tree in the school yard without assistance. He was so proud of his accomplishment. Something he had been trying to do all year!
I had been holding on to the quote for awhile and knew it would be a perfect "title" for my page.
I decided to use a variety of letter stickers by American Crafts to make the title a little more fun.
And every time I look at this page, I smile :)

So I would like to challenge you to mix up your letter stickers and create a longer title. Whether it is a quote, song lyrics or one of your own creation. If you do, please link up here or on our Facebook group page. Would love to see it :)

You're a Star!

Happy Monday!  For our American Nesters, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  Around my house, the day after Thanksgiving is the day we start prepping our home for Christmas.  Right now, it looks like one of Santa's workshops exploded in my living room!  :)

I'm working on several crafty projects as both Christmas gifts and decor items for our house, so I'll be sharing those throughout December.  Today, I'm going to share three new giveaways from the kind folks at My Memories.

Today's free kits allow you to create 3-dimensional stars (they are perfect for holiday decor - or even as ornaments if you scale them down!).

The first design is called "Christmas Together" and may be downloaded by clicking here.

The second is "Tis the Season" and may be downloaded by clicking here.

The third is titled "Winter Magic" and may be downloaded by clicking here.

I'm planning on downloading all three and crafting a few with my boys for their rooms.  Speaking of crafting, I'm (finally) committing to create a "December Daily" album!  I have wanted to make one for a few years, but have always put it off.  This year, I'm not making any excuses!  :)  (Be on the lookout for a post later this week with my empty little album, and I'll keep you filled it as the month progresses.)

Before I go, I want to share one more thing...My Memories v4 was just released!  And right now, My Memories has it on sale for 50% off with promo code "CyberV4full".  This is a limited time offer, so if you've been thinking of purchasing the software, now is the perfect time to do it!

A Tropical Christmas Card

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday and that you're not in too much of a "food coma".

Last week, I promised you that I was going to turn my Aloha Santa layout (from MyMemories) into a Christmas card.  Here's my Aloha Santa card.

Here's a side view of my card.

Whenever I turn a 12" x 12" layout into a card, I always take a side view to show that is really IS a card.  LOL  So, how did I go from this:

To this?:

That's another beauty of digital ~ you can make it almost any size you want to.  First, you have to print out your image.  I used Picasa, but you can use whatever program you want to use.  I've included a little tutorial below.

When you click on "print", your image will need to be resized to make it square.  Here's what it will look like:

All you have to do to make it square is click on "shrink to fit".  Here's what the first image will look like ~ it will be shown on a "full sheet".

You want your card to measure about 6" x 6", so click on 5x7 print size:

See how much smaller the print is?  I usually print two "cards" out on a sheet of cardstock, so I clicked on "copies per photo":

You're all set to print your "cards" out now.  I use white cardstock when I'm printing out a card.

All you have to do now is cut your images out and attach to your card base.

Thanks for stopping by today and we'd love to have you join us in our Craft Your Nest Facebook Group, if you haven't already.

We're looking for guest bloggers so if you're interested, leave us a comment here or in our FB Group.

Here We Go!

On Monday, I shared how I turned bits and pieces from old kits into a mega-kit.  Since my goal is to use up the new and improved kit that I've created, I'm attempting to scrap one layout a week using things found in that lot of papers and embellishments.  (We'll see how that goes...I'll keep you updated!)

My first layout is based on a couple pictures of my boys wearing their Steelers' thermals:

This page is a bit "grungier" (if that's even a word) than I usually do, but it seemed to fit with the theme.

As a bit of background, my husband and I are both from western Pennsylvania, so we're Pittsburgh Steelers fans.  We transferred to south Georgia in 2008 for my husband's job, and after a year or so of living down here, I stumbled on some Steelers shirts at our local Old Navy.  Of course, I had to buy them for my boys!  ;)

Back to my layout - the Thickers were white fabric, but I took the yellow acrylic paint and colored them:

I also used the paint and some black ink with the roller stamp to create the page border:

In the above picture, you can see that I distressed the edges of the patterned paper and pictures, and painted and inked around the journaling circle.  There's also some polka-dot rub-ons thrown in there...I was totally channelling my inner Christy Tomlinson!  :)

Has anyone else scrapped a layout based on a favorite sports team?  I'd love to see what you've created...please feel free to share a link in the comments or add a photo to our Facebook group.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Take One, Two, Three...

A few weeks ago, I shared that I was in the process of purging my entirely-too-large scrapbook stash.  I'm happy to report that the purging process is done.  I'm waiting for some priority boxes to arrive in the mail so I can start prepping these goodies for etsy.  Right now, it's sitting in a rather large pile in a small room off our cats think it's a great treasure hunt.  ;)

While I was cleaning though, I went through all my old kit clubs and pulled out the bits and pieces of each that I really liked.  I ended up with a bit of a mega-kit:

I have made it a priority to use this hodge-podge kit that I have created, so I pulled out a couple photos and chose the elements that I felt best coordinated with my pictures.

Tomorrow I'll share the layout that resulted.  :)

Today I was busy attempting to take our Christmas picture (because I am determined to get cards out this year!).  After more takes than I wish to recount, I still don't have a picture for our cards.  To give you an example of what I was working with, here are a couple shots:

I'm just thankful that no one ended up in the lake!  We're planning to take a few more pictures tomorrow.  Hopefully I'll get a winning shot from that batch!

I did get one nice photo just before we headed home:

(I know my boys love me because they agreed to hold hands for this one!)

How are you spending this Thanksgiving week?  This year, I'm very thankful that we're keeping things small (just my hubby and me and our boys) because it takes a lot of the stress out of the week.  We're taking the whole week off school and the boys and I are going to spend the next couple days crafting and baking and relaxing together - and taking pictures.  ;)

A Tropical Merry Christmas

Hello and happy Friday!  I have my digital scrapbooking hat on today.  I've been making (paper) Christmas cards and tags all week but last night I switched gears and created this digital layout.

I got an email from MyMemories and one thing led to another and I ended up on their blog.  I started reading the blog and I came to their post about their 2nd Annual Workshop in Orlando, Florida.  What first caught my eye was the blog header for this particular blog post.

It was made with the typical "Florida Christmas" look.  We spent every Christmas vacation in South Florida for many years then lived there for seven.  If you've ever lived in a tropical climate or vacationed in one at Christmas, you know just what I'm talking about.

Well, I had these pangs of nostalgia when I saw this blog header, so I left a comment and asked if the blog header was by any chance made from a kit.  I got an email shortly, from Lisa, letting me know that a kit was available and she even sent me the link!  I immediately went to the MyMemories store and found the kit and purchased it.  I downloaded it and created this layout.  (One of the many things I LOVE about digital scrapbooking is instant gratification!)  This kit is called "Aloha Santa" but it totally looks like "Florida Santa".

Here's the adorable kit:

If you're interested in buying the MyMemories Digital Suite, you can use the Craft Your Nest code and save $10.00.  The software program sells for $39.97, but if you use the code STMMMS12633 you can save $10.00 off the purchase price.

This kit cost $6.99 and I think it is well worth it!  I'm going to turn this layout into a card ~ but you'll have to come back next week to see that.  So, hopefully, I'll see you back here next Friday.

We're looking for Guest Bloggers ~ if you're interested ~ leave a comment here or in our Craft Your Nest Facebook Group.

Thanksgiving layouts

I have to say, I think I have only done two Thanksgiving layouts in my scrapping lifetime!
And this is one of them. When Evan was in preschool, each student put together a beautiful flower place setting to use on Thanksgiving day. Thankfully I got these photos of Evan with his flower basket because a few minutes later he became frustrated when one fell out. After which he proceded to crumple up all the flowers. But I just had to make a layout with the before pictures. I loved that little flower basket he put together so much.

The other layout is a much older layout that I don't even have a photograph of because it's in one of my older Creative Memories albums. But let's just say it was a Thanksgiving before Evan was even born!

So my challenge to you as well as to myself this week, is to scrapbook some of your Thanksgiving photos! I think Thanksgiving tends to get neglected as far as the other holidays. At least in my case it does :)
And I would love to see some of your pages for some inspiration! So link up here or on our Facebook Group page and I will enter you for a chance to win a small pack of goodies. These three items to be exact...
I will announce a winner next Wednesday Nov. 21st for this little prize pack. In addition to sharing a project, I will give you an additional chance to win if you join our group page on Facebook or follow the Craft Your Nest blog :)

Can't wait to see your pages! :)

More Celebrate Cards

Hello, Nesters.  I'm still using my Teresa Collins Celebrate paper collection and needed two more birthday cards.  Take a look at the two quick and easy birthday cards I created last night.

Aren't these great?  I literally made both of them in about 15 minutes and that's REALLY FAST for me.

Here's a picture of some of the wonderful elements of this kit:

This is a picture of several pieces of the kit, but what I've loved are all of the tags.  I only have about three of them left.  I've never been a fast scrapper OR card maker, but this kit absolutely just goes together ~ almost by itself.

I hope you're having a wonderful Friday and thanks for stopping by!  If you haven't become a follower already, we'd love to have you follow us.  We'd also love to have you join our Facebook Group {if you haven't already}.

We're looking for guest bloggers, too.  If you're interested, please let us know ~ either here or in our Facebook Group.

Where to Look for Those Calls!

I am by no means a regular submitter to the magazines or for design team calls. But I have occasionally tried out for a team I thought would work for me, or submitted a layout I had on hand that fit a magazine call.

I think the main reason I don't submit consistently is that it can be a lot of work to hunt down all of those calls. Thankfully there are now two sites that do most of the work for you.
The first is a site called Design Team Calls.
The posts on the main home page keep scrapbookers updated on the newest calls being announced as well as new design team members that make the teams. In addition, there is a fun advice and tips section with designer interviews and behind the scenes info from companies! And of course you can see a listing of all the current calls for magazines, blogs, kit clubs and more under the "calls list" tab.
Also now available is a section for challenges and contests that even has a list of prizes!
There is a premium membership known as the Design Team Calls Insider available but it's not something that I personally have found necessary. The site seems to have enough great resources without all of the "extras".

I have to say I am personally grateful to Susan's site, because this one was where I discovered the design team call for Crafting Ireland magazine. Since it is a newer magazine, I don't think I would have been aware of the call if I had not seen it on the Design Team calls site. :)

The second site is 100% free at this time. DT Calls is a simpler site that has a nice blog format on the home page with tabs for a list of current calls and challenges.
With this site, you don't get some of the extra tips and advice. But it has a nice no-nonsense approach to finding calls quickly.

Both sites have Facebook pages which you can access from their home pages which is helpful!

So if one of your scrapbook goals is to be published in a magazine or find a design team position, these sites may be helpful to you!

My Memories Suite Giveaway!!!

I am so excited to share today's post with you!  Thanks to the generous folks at My Memories, I get to give away a copy of their My Memories Suite digital software!

Before I get into the details of the giveaway, I want to share a couple freebies that My Memories have also made available to us.  Until November 19, you can download three take-out box templates (for free!) by following the links provided after the pictures.

The first box set is called Fading Frost:

You may download this set by clicking here.

The next set is titled Heart Home:

You may download by clicking here.

And the third set is called Peppermint:

You may download this set by clicking here.

A step-by-step tutorial (with pictures!) for crafting the boxes may be accessed by clicking here.

And I've got one more thing to share with you today.  I've been playing around with my copy of My Memories Suite and the Persnickety Prints "Birds of a Feather" kit (which is free to download!).

This year, I wanted to create a Thanksgiving mini-book with my boys.  I'm too cheap to buy pre-made Thanksgiving tags, so I decided to make some for myself!  And I'm going to share them with you, my crafty friends.  :)

To download, you can right-click on the image above and save it to your computer.  Or, you can download a .pdf version with two tags to a page by clicking here.

I hope you enjoy!  I had a blast making them, so you may see some more freebies from me in the future.

But now, on to the giveaway!  There are three ways you can get your name entered in to the random drawing:
  1. Follow Craft Your Nest
  2. Join our Facebook group
  3. Comment on this post with your favorite product from My Memories
So, that's up to three entries per person!  I'll leave the giveaway open until midnight (eastern time) on Sunday, November 11.  I'll post the winner (decided by random drawing) on Monday the 12th.  Good luck!  :)

I Love Technology!

Hello Nesters and happy Friday!  Cheryl here and I know I'm running late today.  I have a good excuse - I went and got my flu shot today.  I thought it would be an in and out thing, but you know it's never an in and out thing at a doctor's office.  LOL  Anyway, I'm all set for flu season!

So, why did I title my post "I Love Technology"?  Well, first of all, I DO love it and secondly, I have a story to tell you about why I created this digital layout:

Many years ago, one of my sisters lived in a little historic town named Newburgh.  It's in southern Indiana and we all grew up in central Indiana.  We visited her quite often and every time we did, we went to this really awesome country store.  That was always a must-go-to place.

Fast forward to a couple of weekends ago.  My other sister (who still lives in central Indiana) made a day trip to southern Indiana to take her granddaughter to visit her boyfriend at college.  My sister called me and asked me if I remembered the name of the little town that our other sister used to live in.  She knew that she was real close and just couldn't remember the name of the little town.  I got on my computer and googled the nearby larger city and when I told her "Newburgh", she said she wondered if that country store was still there.  Just about that time, the Newburgh Country Store came up in my search.

I gave Gayla the address and she got Onstar on the line and they directed her right to the country store.  I was still on the phone with her when she pulled up and she told me it still looked exactly like she remembered.  She took some pictures and sent them right to me.  To make a long story short, the photograph in the layout is of the Newburgh Country Store as it looks today - exactly like it looked all those years ago!

So, again - isn't technology wonderful?  I actually created this layout for a DT reveal at Kaboodle Doodles last week.  Our theme was anything fall related and this picture was perfect.  The digital kit I used is from Echo Park and is called Fall Fever.

We're looking for Guest Bloggers, so if you're interested, please let us know!  You can leave a comment here, or in our Facebook Group.

Thanks for stopping by today and if you haven't joined our Facebook Group already, we'd love to have you.  There's always room at the "Nest"!!
